Avington Park, a magnificent house and grounds, where King Charles II found lodging for Nell Gwynne.
This is by way of an introduction post to Avington Park, a Hampshire house with a grand history. Stunning to look at, re-modeled in the C18th, the original house is thought to have C12th origins. The church at the edge of the park is simply a wonderful example of late C18th church architecture. Not only that but Hampage Wood in the park is home to the Gospel Oak, a tree with a history all its own.
Now open to the public and a wonderful venue for events. See the Avington Park website for details of opening times.
