An ancient yew tree, an ancient church and an ancient font
The baptismal font in Newton Valance is conical or tub form with a simple cut rim around the top. The basin sits on a single pedastel foot which was probably added later. It is carved from local chalkstone and the basin lined with lead. Various dates have been proposed as to when it was made some as late as the C13th but its form could indicate a much earlier date, possibly pre- conquest.
