Here is number 1 in a series of short posts, on the out of the ordinary artifacts and objects that can be found in Hampshire churches
This grave stone can be found in the floor of the chancel of the church of St Michael Chalton. The simplicity of the inscription and the formation of the lettering, along with the naive three symbols, make it a very intriguing object.
Chalton is a very ancient place in Hampshire, with an early Anglo Saxon settlement and possibly the oldest inn in Hampshire, The Red Lion, which dates back to the C12th.
