Another Hampshire church treasure, this time lying at our feet in the church of Our Lady Warnford
Churches are full of extraordinary items, some of them tucked away in hidden corners…..
Here is number 6 in a series of short posts, on the out of the ordinary artifacts and objects that can be found in Hampshire churches
Built on the site of former Saxon church, the Norman church of Our Lady at Warnford is one of Hampshire’s hidden treasures itself but on the floor, lies a simple but moving headstone. It is the headstone marking the death of a C13th crusader, the simple cross being all that is needed to mark this soldier’s last resting place.
See other posts on the history of the church and the ruin of St John’s House that lies behind it.
